Acacia Melanoxylon (Blackwood Acacia) Evergreen Tree

Acacia melanoxylon better known as the Australian Blackwood tree is a really nice small evergreen tree considered tender but I first saw growing away quiet happily in the gardens at Wakehurst Kew. The trees where around 4-6 metres high and looked spectacular in the late winter light their willow like deep green leaves looking lush in the greyness of a winters day. In addition to the attractive foliage, during early spring clusters of pale creamy white fragrant flowers are produced.
Keep It Alive

1. Water an acacia once a week until your plant gets established, then only in hot weather, every three to four weeks.
2. When you water, deeply soak the entire area under the canopy to avoid encouraging shallow roots.
3. Provide good drainage.
