Griselinia or often called, New Zealand privet, is a fast-growing large evergreen shrub with light green, broadly oval leaves. The characteristic upright habit and bright, dense glossy leaves makes this plant a popular choice for hedging. If used as a hedging plant, regular pruning encourages a dense, compact hedge, beneficial to nesting birds and other wildlife and also gives good coverage for screening and privacy in the garden. Preferring a more sheltered site, Griselinia will grow well in most areas and is tolerant of salty air, making it a good option for coastal planting. Hardy down to -10C once established, Griselinia can grow at a rate of around 20-40cm a year, reaching a height of 4-8 metres at maturity. Female species produce small inconspicuous yellow-green flowers followed by purple fruits but requires a male species grown nearby for pollination. We cannot guarantee the sex of these pot grown species. We are more than happy to help advise and guide you through your order, please call or email us for any advice.
